Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak From Brady Years with Win Against New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs this season
New England matched their best victory streak since the Brady era as they defeated division rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots secured an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of Henderson. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the triumph
